After several months of searching and praying, the Seminary of the Americas (SENDAS) in Costa Rica will have a new member to their leadership team. A committee composed of Christian Sarmiento, Mexico/Central America (MAC) regional director and president of the SENDAS Association, Tim Brunk, strategy coordinator for MAC South, and Rubén Fernández, MAC regional coordinator of Theological Education, has named Ulises Solís (pictured) as the new academic dean and dean of Spiritual Life and Practical Ministry for SENDAS.

For the past five years, Jerry Rice has served as academic dean of SENDAS, but a search for a replacement was started when he suggested that the position best be filled by a Latin American. Rice will now serve in a supporting and advisory role.

Jorge Baños is currently dean of Spiritual Life and Practical Ministry and at the same time has the immense task of supervising the growing theological education by Extension (ETED) program for MAC South. His responsibilities require a large amount of travel and much time attending to his work as a teacher. Solís's arrival will greatly aid the work of both Rice and Baños.

Solís has previously served as pastor, church planter, administrator, and district superintendent in his native El Salvador. For the past two years, his ministry has been in the area of theological education as the current rector of the Nazarene Theological Seminary of Guatemala (STN). Under his leadership, STN's enrollment grew from 477 to 690 students, with 129 students graduating from the various programs available in the three countries of the MAC Central Field during this short period of time. He is a recognized speaker on the doctrine of holiness and is very loved and respected throughout the MAC Region for his excellent interpersonal relations and great heart of service.

Solís's studies include a bachelor's degree in Accounting and the levels of higher ministerial study and theological education offered by STN of Guatemala. Solísis a candidate for graduation from the program Masters in Science of Religion with mention in "SENDAS Fulfilling the Mission of the Church."

It is projected that the Solís family will arrive on the SENDAS campus during the month of October 2005, before the annual Assembly of the SENDAS Association.

Hugo Alvarado, current district superintendent for the Guatemala Central District, has been elected as the new STN rector. His studies include a bachelor's degree in Theology (1999), a master's in Higher Education (2003), and a doctorate in Theology (pending graduation in November 2005). Alvarado has experience as a high school teacher, a university and seminary professor, a Nazarene pastor (13 years), a participant in various international conferences, a member of the Guatemala Central District Advisory Board, and the Guatemala Central District Superintendent for the past year.
