Point Loma Nazarene University (PLNU) is pleased to welcome its new director of community development, Mark Marney. As director of community development, Marney will be responsible for management, oversight, and leadership of significant external strategic initiatives on behalf of the university to strengthen PLNU's profile in the community. He will also build and maintain strong relationships with governmental agencies, nonprofit groups, and other strategic relationships.

Marney brings expertise in planning and development and will assist with building charitable interest in the San Diego region. Under his leadership, the office of community development will serve as the primary point of contact for neighbor relations, to track local, state, and federal legislation that may impact PLNU and assist, when requested, with campus planning.

Marney comes to PLNU from a long tenure at the City of San Diego Park and Recreation Department. He has a significant background in planning, development, and management of facilities. Marney’s most recent position was assistant director of Golf Operations and was officed at Torrey Pines. During his tenure at San Diego Park and Recreation, he was a significant author of the master plan for Sunset Cliffs Natural Park.

"Mark's experience and background will be an asset to the university as we develop and implement our external strategic initiatives,” said Joe Watkins, vice president of external affairs. “I am pleased to have him on our team."

Behind Marney’s experience is a degree in Landscape Architecture from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. He has a MBA from PLNU and a license to practice as a landscape architect in the State of California.
