Officials make arrest in Missouri church vandalism case
Tuesday, March 11, 2008
Weston, Missouri
Last month, NCN News posted a Kansas City Star story reporting a Missouri church was hit with "blatant vandalism and destruction." At the time of the incident, Weston Church of the Nazarene Pastor Mark Massey said the church was moving on but he was hopeful the vandal or vandals would be caught.
Now, according to the Star, Platte County, Missouri authorities arrested 28 year-old Daniel W. Singleton for vandalizing the Weston church.
The Rushville, Missouri, man was arrested on Monday, March 10, after authorities received a tip through the Crime Stoppers hotline.
Following a time of questioning, the Star reported Singleton told authorities he broke up with his girlfriend that day--February 16--and drank a fifth of a bottle of whiskey, took some prescription pills, and began driving around back roads. He recalls driving through some trees, striking a mailbox, and then hitting a beige-colored building. The church is a beige sheet metal building.
The Star reported authorities said Singleton used a 1992 Black Jeep Cherokee in the incident. The vehicle was in his possession, and the damage to the vehicle was consistent with evidence collected at the scene. The damage to the church was estimated at $15,000 (U.S.).
The Platte County Sheriff’s Department is preparing to present the case to the Platte County Prosecutor’s Office, which will determine whether to file criminal charges.
