“After traveling on two other medical mission trips with NNU students, I found that these trips not only affect the people we serve, but profoundly affect the hearts of our students. Many students return with a totally different perspective on life and service.”--Chris L. Kapicka

NNU students to take medical mission trip to Mexico
Tuesday, March 11, 2008
Nampa, Idaho
Sixteen students from Northwest Nazarene University’s (NNU) nursing and biology departments will depart for a medical mission trip to Mexico over their spring break, March 17-21. Students will set up and assist in temporary outpatient clinics near the U.S./Mexico border in Reynosa and Rio Bravo where they hope to improve border relations.
Approximately $40,000 worth of medical supplies, medicine, toys, soaps, toothpaste, and toothbrushes were donated from the community to assist in the effort. Nampa businesses Costco, Fred Meyer, and Wal-Mart donated many of these items. Global Humanitarian Organization, Heart to Heart International, and Hands of Hope provided the NNU team with nearly $13,000 worth of medicine and necessary supplies.
Current and retired NNU faculty members will join students and community medical professionals on this trip including retired physician Donald Rau and missionary Tami Buell.
Trip coordinator and retired NNU faculty Chris L. Kapicka said, “After traveling on two other medical mission trips with NNU students, I found that these trips not only affect the people we serve, but profoundly affect the hearts of our students. Many students return with a totally different perspective on life and service.”
The media is invited to campus Wednesday, March 12 at 4 P.M. as students and staff involved with the medical mission trip pack donated items in the NNU Science Lecture Hall. The group leaves Saturday March 15 and returns Monday, March 24.
