Transport for Lesotho pastors provided by Tennessee District Women's Council
Lesotho, Africa
Wednesday, September 17, 2008
Traveling in Lesotho, Africa, remains an enormous challenge. Some pastors walk long distances from one congregation to another. Pastor Leronti Letsoso walks a day's journey once a week from Manamaneng to Ha Mashai, both in Lesotho, where he has started six congregations in order to train and strengthen the pastors in their ministries.
Recently, it was decided bicycles would be purchased for the pastors since most of them can ride bikes. Unfortunately, bicycles cannot go to the mountain areas. Therefore, a horse was purchased for one of the pastors, Kaitholla Mohau Leeme. In addition, the vehicle for the district coordinator has been repaired and will soon be on the road again.
The project to raise funds to provide transport for the pastors in Lesotho was initiated by the Tennessee District Women's Ministries Council. Annetta Sykes, a member of the council, was in Lesotho 17 years ago and felt led to assist in a project. Field Strategy Coordinator Collin Elliott approached Sykes to ask if the council would consider this project and a check to cover the transportation need was sent earlier in 2008.
Many of the pastors arrived for the Lesotho Pastor's Conference held in Maseru, Lesotho, from September 5-7 via their new bicycles. Pastors reported planting 11 new churches in Lesotho.
Lesotho District Superintendent Klaas Tau commented: "Equipping Lesotho pastors with transport has brought great joy in the service of the Lord and the people. It is our prayer that the bikes, a horse, and a car will be put to good use for the expansion of the Kingdom of God. Thanks, once more for your assistance."
