THE OPPORTUNITY:   
To assume a leadership role in a vibrant Christian university dedicated to the pursuit of excellence in the fulfillment of its mission. The vice president for Academic Affairs is the chief academic officer and is responsible to the president for all undergraduate and graduate operations related to curriculum, recruitment of faculty, instructional programs, educational policy, development of innovative and effective pedagogical methodologies and skills, operational and strategic planning for the academic enterprise, and academic resources.  The vice president for Academic Affairs is responsible for insuring the continued accreditation of the university's programs and serves a primary role in the accreditation relationship with the Higher Learning Commission (HLC) and other accrediting agencies.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Earned doctorate from an accredited university, a distinguished record of teaching and scholarship in higher education and service that exhibits a commitment to academic excellence and merits appointment to the rank of professor.
  • A successful record of experience in academic administration as department chair, dean, or vice president and supervisory experience in budget and program development and oversight.
  • Committed Christian in the Wesleyan-evangelical tradition with preference given to membership or heritage in the Church of the Nazarene.
  • Ability to articulate and promote a philosophy of Christian higher education in the Wesleyan tradition.
  • Optimistic, problem solver, fair and balanced, consensus builder, team player, team builder, collegial and collaborative in decision-making, and the ability to relate to and work effectively with other senior university administrators.
  • An experienced academic professional with an understanding of and appreciation for the distinctive qualities of Mount Vernon Nazarene University.
  • Able to articulate a vision for the academic program that will inspire the support of the faculty, colleagues of the President's Cabinet, and the campus community.
  • Excellent interpersonal and public speaking skills with a demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with the campus community and external constituencies.
  • A unifier who can listen well, plan well, and implement well.
  • Evidence of personal Christian faith; involvement in a local church; integrity; honesty; fairness; and high moral, ethical, and spiritual values which serve as a motivating construct for engaging the quest for learning and faith in the educational mission of the university.
  • Evidence of Christian humility, service, and character that engenders trust and confidence.
  • Familiarity with and commitment to the liberal arts educational values, the issues of undergraduate education, graduate education, and professional programs.
