Nazarene behind Hallmark Hall of Fame
Friday, May 1, 2009
Kansas City, Missouri
From his roots and family history, one might think that Brad Moore was destined to be a pastor, district superintendent, or denominational executive. The son of a college president, district superintendent, and World War II hero Mark R. Moore, Brad knew the inside scoop on the Church of the Nazarene. And that knowledge made him a passionate believer in the Church's mission and message. His career goals, however, took him to executive positions in such large U.S. corporations like Procter & Gamble and most recently, Hallmark Cards.
Brad Moore is president - Hallmark Hall of Fame Productions, a subsidiary of Hallmark Cards, Inc. In this role, he is responsible for the development and production of the Hallmark Hall of Fame, the most-honored series in U.S. television history.
Moore has led the Hallmark Hall of Fame for 26 years. He joined Hallmark in 1982 to direct Hallmark's advertising and promotion efforts, and responsibility for the Hallmark Hall of Fame was added in 1983. He served as vice-president - Advertising & Television Programming for the next 10 years and was named president of Hallmark Hall of Fame Productions in 1993 when that unit was formed as a separate movie-production subsidiary.
It was at Hallmark that Brad Moore found his true calling. In this setting, he has used his talents in ways that have influenced millions of people. Moore has profoundly shaped the character of the unmatched television series, the Hallmark Hall of Fame.
Under Moore's leadership the Hallmark Hall of Fame has produced more than 80 movies and received 31 Emmy awards (5 for "Best Picture"), plus 7 Golden Globe awards and numerous other honors. Those films have included the single most honored program in U.S. television history (Promise, 1985) and the four highest rated movies on any television network over the past 20 years.
Moore said, "People in the church can make a difference in their secular lives, and not just their 'church' lives. I've often said I'm fortunate to have the best job in the entire entertainment business. After all, my assignment at Hallmark is to produce movies that enrich lives, have constructive intent, and truly reflect quality and good taste. That's what our company's owners, the Hall family, expect - and then they provide tremendous support and creative freedom. Where is there another assignment like that?
The following clip from the CBS television program, "Sunday Morning" tells the Hallmark story and showcases the role and influence that Moore has had in this successful run on U.S. television: Click here
Moore also serves as chairman of the board of trustees of his alma mater, Southern Nazarene University (SNU), chairman of the board of Nazarene Publishing House, secretary of the board of Nazarene Theological Seminary, is a member of the SNU Foundation board, and a member of Board of General Superintendents Thought Partners, an advisory group to the general superintendents of the Church of the Nazarene. He is also a member of the Production Executives Peer Group of the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences and a past director of the Association of National Advertisers and of Kansas City public television station KCPT.
Moore's grandparents and parents attended SNU, as did his wife, Laura. More recently, so did Brad and Laura's two children, Todd and Erin. In the future, Brad and Laura look forward to their grandchildren becoming the fifth generation of the family to attend SNU.
