On August 28-30, the first Sunday School and Discipleship Ministries International (SDMI) Summit in the Mexico and Central America (MAC) Region took place at Nazarene Theological Seminary-Guatemala with the purpose of re-launching Sunday School toward the future. SDMI Director Woodie J. Stevens was the special speaker for this event, challenging those in attendance to live the dynamic life of holy disciples and disciplers.

More than 150 leaders from Guatemala and El Salvador gathered to attend services, plenary sessions, and Sunday School ministry workshops. The plenary sessions served as tools for refocusing Sunday School in the local churches.

The themes and expositors of the plenary sessions were the following:
  • Spiritual Life through Discipleship and Sunday School by Ulises Solis
  • Integration of Discipleship in Sunday School by Ramon A. Sierra
  • New Models for Sunday School by Blanca D. Campos
  • Disciple-Making Teachers by Ramon A. Sierra
  • Connecting a New Generation: A Decadal Emphasis on Children and Youth (2002-2012), by Patricia Picavea and Blanca D. Campos
The event was a special time of learning and commitment to revitalize Sunday School,  intentionally making it an effective means of making Christlike disciples. It was coordinated by Ulises and Kelly Solis, the MAC Central SDMI coordinators (for Guatemala, El Salvador, and Honduras), and Ramon A. Sierra, the MAC Region SDMI coordinator. Summits will take place around the region in 2010 as part of the MAC Region SDMI strategy.
