Guatemala City, Guatemala
Thursday, October 29, 2009
The Mexico and Central America (MAC) Region began a three-day Holiness Summit on October 29. Many people from around the MAC Region, the Caribbean Region, and elsewhere gathered to celebrate the love of God and to remember His call to holiness.

Schedule of Services and Speakers:

Thursday, October 29, 3:00 P.M. - Christian Sarmiento
Sarmiento serves as the director of the South America Region.

After a time of prayer in the afternoon, Sarmiento spoke about holiness in the first plenary session, referencing Mark 11:20-26. "We believe in the God of the Bible. We still believe in the God of the impossible - the God who restores," he said.

Thursday, October 29, 7:30 P.M. - Eugenio Duarte
Duarte is one of six general superintendents in the Church of the Nazarene.

Duarte, the jurisdictional superintendent for the MAC Region, spoke about God as a consuming and purifying fire. "Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, let us be thankful, and so worship God acceptably with reverence and awe, for our 'God is a consuming fire'" (Hebrews 12:28-29, NIV). The service was led by MAC Regional Director Luis Carlos Saenz, with Jorge Cordova leading attendees in a prayer time.

Friday, October 30, 9:00 A.M. - Roberto Hodgson
Hodgson is the Hispanic coordinator for the USA/Canada Region.

"The Holy Spirit empowers his people to accomplish His mission," said Hodgson. "We need the power of the Holy Spirit in our pulpits. Believe that the Holy Spirit is for you. The Holy Spirit gives us the fuel to accomplish His mission, but it looks like sometimes we decide to push our car. Let's end this conference knowing that God has a gas station with unending fuel!"

Friday, October 30, 11:00 A.M. - Woodie J. Stevens
Stevens is the director of Sunday School and Discipleship Ministries International.

Friday, October 30, 3:00 P.M. - Oliver Phillips
Phillips serves as the director of Multicultural Ministries for the USA/Canada Region.

"Lets go to the Upper Room and let us be filled with the Holy Spirit," said Phillips. "When we are under the power of the Holy Spirit, we are not responsible for what we do ... lets have people to see that we are filled with the Spirit of God and that He is the one who controls our lives. ... When we are filled with the Spirit of God, He sets us up into the right direction and people can see the image of God in our lives ... By the power of the Holy Spirit the drug addicts can leave drugs and sons go back home. ... The life that you live talks for you. The Spirit of God gives us passion to love God and to love our brothers."

Gunter was the first female general superintendent in the Church of the Nazarene.
