Trevecca graduates to reopen Nazarene work in Croatia

Following requests from Christians in Croatia, the Church of the Nazarene will soon be able to reopen its work in that country through the efforts of four current Trevecca seniors and one alumnus. Following their graduation in May, seniors Brittany Argabright, Hope Brock, Emily Humble, Jerry Romasco, and alumnus Michael Hendricks '09 will move this summer to Zagreb, Croatia, where they will serve one- or two-year terms.

Ten years ago the Church of the Nazarene first began a mission effort in Croatia, but for the past five years, the denomination had no presence in Croatia. Jay and Teanna Sunberg, strategy coordinators of the Southeast Europe field, report that Croatian residents have requested that the denomination send workers. These Trevecca students have volunteered to be the denomination's presence in Croatia.

Trevecca's Mission Program is working with the students to help them reenter Croatia. Kathy Mowry, former missionary and the director of the university's mission program, has been encouraging her students to give one or two years in cross-cultural service following their graduation. These five students heard that call and answered affirmatively. "In a year or two, after this group completes its term, we at Trevecca hope to have other volunteers ready to become partners with the Croatians until a stable and reproducible community of believers can be birthed there," says Mowry.

The Trevecca students will serve as Mission Corps volunteers through the Church of the Nazarene. All five students will also participate in Nazarene Theological Seminary's new 365M program, earning graduate credit during their first year on the field.

The five are working to raise the $120,000 (U.S. dollars) that will be required for their travel and living expenses and their ministry budget. Persons and/or churches may support the team either through their regular mission giving channels or through donations made on the Trevecca web site. Team members are also available to present the project in local churches. For more information, contact Kathy Mowry at 615-248-1387 or kmowry@trevecca.edu.
