Clinger was born June 26, 1917, in Marseilles, Ohio, to Ira and Ruth Chandler Clinger.

He graduated from Upper Sandusky, Ohio, High School and Ohio Northern University, his mother's alma mater. He taught fifth grade in Marseilles and preached in neighboring Methodist churches.

After attending Asbury Seminary, he and his wife, Arline, went to Colombia as missionaries with the Southern Methodists.

On May 2, 1970, Clinger married, Merilyn Manchester in Waterville, Vermont, where they settled until moving to a farm on Hogback Road in Cambridge, Vermont.

Clinger continued his education, studied the Word of God, and visited home-bound people, reading the Scriptures to them. He loved travel and especially enjoyed his trip to the Holy Land.

Clinger is survived by his wife, his son, Maurice Ira "Mic" in Parker, Colorado; daughter, Merilyn Ruth "Mel" and Ron Miller; Caleb and Megan in Colorado Springs; son, John and Karen, Joshua, Rachel, and Isaiah in Lowell; sister, Alice Kear in Carey, Ohio; several cousins, nieces, and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Richard; and sister-in-law, Carolyn Hover.

The family will be receiving friends at the Waterville Church of the Nazarene Sunday afternoon, August 8, from 3 to 5 P.M. A memorial service will be held at 10 A.M. Monday, August 9, in Waterville.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers those who wish to do something in his memory contribute to the Church of the Nazarene in Ixtapan de la Sal, Mexico, by sending gifts to LVCN, P.O. Box 384, Johnson, VT 05656.
