Susie Shellenberger has received the 10th Lifetime Achievement Leadership Award from The Reed Institute for the Advanced Study of Leadership at Olivet Nazarene University. Shellenberger is the founder and editor of Susie Magazine, a Christian magazine for teenage girls.

Shellenberger was the editor and creator behind Brio magazine, a publication of Focus on the Family for teenage girls, from its inception in 1990 to the time when it moved online in recent years.

"She was selected for her tireless work with young people, especially females over the years," explains Beth Olney, Olivet's director of the Center for Student Success.

"Susie continues to influence women through her speaking, her writing, and her life."

University President John C. Bowling presented the award to Shellenberger during Olivet's chapel service Wednesday, October 6.

Shellenberger is an ordained pastor in the Church of the Nazarene and has served as a youth pastor and high school teacher. She is a sought-after international speaker and author of more than 40 books for audiences of women's groups and teens.

Prior to her present role, she has debated Dr. Ruth on FOX News, has been featured as a teen expert on The Montel Show, and co-hosted a national, weekly call-in radio show for teens, Life on the Edge Live, a production of Focus on the Family. Shellenberger has taken more than 5,000 teens on mission trips around the world and instigated the Brio mother/daughter cruise for Focus on the Family.

Each year, in cooperation with the Reed Institute and in honor of Harold Reed, who served as University president from 1949-1975, Olivet brings to campus an outstanding leader for special recognition.
