General secretary releases 2011 stats

Recently General Secretary David P. Wilson and Research Services released the annual church statistical reports for 2011. These detailed reports documenting the missional activities of the Church of the Nazarene on a global scale show growth for the denomination over the statistical year, as well as continued growth over the past decade.

Global reports show total current membership for the Church of the Nazarene at 2,136,122, a net increase of 76,861 (3.7 percent) from 2010

The denomination welcomed in 157,003 new Nazarenes this year.

The fastest growing regions in membership were Eurasia (8.8 percent) and Africa (7.5 percent). The USA/Canada Region gained 526 members last year to bring its total to 663,901, a .08 percent increase. USA/Canada membership has risen 1.2 percent since 2001 when it was 656,027.

There are currently 27,524 churches in the denomination, an increase of 1,171 from last year's report. Of the churches listed, 19,254 are considered officially organized, a gain of 807 in that category. 

The average weekly worship attendance rose by 4.2 percent in 2011 to 1,439,361. 

The Church of the Nazarene has 15,962 ordained elders, 742 ordained deacons, and 8,925 licensed ministers.
