2012 NYI Leadership Conference strengthens future of Nazarene youth ministry
Tuesday, March 20, 2012
San Diego, California
From March 4 to 6, 102 Nazarene Youth International leaders from 54 districts across the USA/Canada Region gathered in San Diego on the campus of Point Loma Nazarene University for NYI’s 2012 Leadership Conference. The conference is an annual gathering where NYI leadership comes together to exchange ideas, build relationships, and receive information regarding NYI events, programs, and strategies.

The conference began with an orientation session for new NYI district presidents and then launched into a time of sharing, encouragement, and challenges. Over the two day event, participants were able to debrief on the 2011 Nazarene Youth Conference, share thoughts for future conferences, hear about upcoming events and training opportunities, gather information for the 2013 NYI Global Convention, and hear from Gary Hartke, NYI director, about the future strategy for NYI.

In the spirit of collaboration and shared learning, Larry Bollinger, Nazarene Compassionate Ministries director; Marty Hoskins, Global Mission Mobilization personnel coordinator; and Bob Broadbooks, USA/Canada regional director; also shared information with participants regarding their respective ministries. They also received valuable feedback from conference participants through times of open discussion.

Hartke summed up the time together by quoting an African proverb which states, “if you want to go fast go alone, if you want to go far go together.”

“The 102 district and regional leaders at the NYI Leadership Conference worked together to strengthen the future of youth ministry for the Church of the Nazarene throughout the USA/Canada," Hartke said. "It was a clear reminder that we are better when we work together than when we work alone."
