Global praise reports and prayer requests: May 25, 2012
Tuesday, May 22, 2012
Global Ministry Center
This week's praise reports and prayer requests from Nazarene Missions International, JESUS Film Harvest Partners, and NCN News include:
PRAISES
Alabaster 2011
Nazarenes gave US$2,732,620 for Alabaster to fund 200 construction projects on mission fields in 2011 – this is an average of 4 projects per week.
JESUS Film - Brazil
"The films are a good outreach tool," said a team member in Brazil. "The JESUS film and Magdalena (the JESUS film for women) was well received in the neighborhood. We were invited to the area as part of a coordinated outreach effort."
JESUS Film - Philippines
"Praise God for the things He has done in us and through us," said a team member in the Philippines. "Due to rainy weather conditions, we decided to have our showing inside the home of a local woman named Maria. There were 10 adults and 15 children present. At the end of the show, a challenge to accept Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior was given. Each person responded positively. They are now holding a regular Bible study every Sunday afternoon."
JESUS Film - South Asia
"We showed the JESUS film to 100 people," said a team leader in South Asia. "The people watched closely and at the end acknowledged Jesus has supreme power over demons. They understood He died to save us from our sins and eternal life is available only through Christ. They asked to know more about following Jesus. During our follow-up visits, many families accepted Jesus as their Savior."
PRAYER REQUESTS
Swaziland Partnership
The Swaziland Partnership has hit a roadblock in an important project and your prayers are needed. The Partnership worked for two years to establish a dental clinic in Manzini, Swaziland. The Swazi people have extremely limited access to dental care. The Raleigh Fitkin Nazarene Hospital has provided a building. A shipping container full of donated supplies is in route to Swaziland. However, before any work can be done, approval by the Manzini City Council is needed and they have had the paperwork since January. A team is going in July to install equipment and to dedicate the Gerald Gassett Memorial Dental Clinic. Please ask God to move on behalf of the Swazi people so that this critical approval would be received? To learn more about the Swaziland Partnership, click here.
India heat wave
Kolkata, India, and other areas of India, has been suffering a tremendous heat wave. Temps have reached 104 degrees Fahrenheit and humidity is much higher than normal. Heat indexes are reaching 126 degrees. Amitava Chatterji, superintendent of the Eastern India District, said “people are dying because of the heat.” It rained on Sunday evening, bringing some relief. Weather forecast shows continued high heat and humidity. Few homes have air conditioning so some people are bathing up to 15 times a day to keep cool and are having difficulty sleeping at night.
PNG elections
Pray for Papua New Guinea during the upcoming national elections in June and July. Pray for peaceful elections, and that voters will elect individuals who will govern wisely and impartially, honoring God by their words and actions. Pray for the PNG Church, and for missionaries who are serving there, that they might be salt and light in their communities.
Quito seminary
Pray for an issue related to the property tax on the Nazarene Seminary in Quito, Ecuador. The cost increased eight times this year.
