This week's praise reports and prayer requests from Nazarene Missions International, JESUS Film Harvest Partners, and NCN News include:

PRAISES

Swaziland Partnership
Thank you for praying last week regarding the roadblock the Swaziland Partnership faced with their dental clinic. A few days after the prayer request for the dental clinic went out, word was received that all the government approvals were processed. The Partnership is now free to move ahead with this much needed facility. To learn more about the Swaziland Partnership, click here.

JESUS Film - Colombia
"Most travel this road to make money," said a team member in Colombia. "The mountain road is narrow and dangerous. Most only go this way to seek financial gain. We went to extend our arms of love on behalf of our Savior. Of these rural farmers, 17 accepted the gift of Christ in their lives. Martha told us the JESUS film has breathed new life into the community. The believers are studying God's Word."

JESUS Film - Haiti
"I was like a car with no brakes or lights," said a viewer in Haiti. "My value comes from Jesus. Without Christ, I was in the darkness with no light for my way or the ability to stop the direction I was headed. I was as useless as a car with no brakes to stop or headlights for the night. Now my freedom comes from Jesus in my life."

JESUS Film - Malawi
"I renounce my bad ways," said Osman in Malawi. "I was using Juju [a form of witchcraft] in my fishing business. Since I have seen the JESUS film and accepted Christ as my Savior, I rejected my evil practices. I am part of the local church, learning more about God's love for me."

PRAYER REQUESTS

Prayer for Syria
The following was received this week from Syrian Church of the Nazarene leaders: “The need for prayer is huge, both for our nation and for the Body of Christ. We are hurting deeply for our people, especially the Christians who are suffering for no reason. Many people are coming to the church seeking help from Homs and other areas of the country. We pray that God will bring the help and resources to them through the Church. Our prayer is that God will use us to be the light in a dark world. Please, please, please get many people to pray for us.”

Hewa People of PNG
The Hewa people in Papua New Guinea have a roughly 85 percent infant mortality rate due to cultural and religious practices surrounding childbirth. According to a recent report by New Tribes Mission missionaries serving among the Hewa, the Hewa believe evil spirits will inhabit the baby if anyone touches it as it is being born or immediately afterward. As a result, babies fall onto dirt floors as they are being delivered, and they are not cleaned or kept warm immediately after birth. Other childcare practices introduce the likelihood of illnesses and infection in babies. Pray for a team of community health and medical personnel from the Kudjip Hospital in PNG who will bring health and medical training to the tribe this June in hopes of teaching them how to deliver and care for their babies and mothers. Pray also that the Holy Spirit would prepare their hearts to receive the loving power of Jesus Christ to liberate them from destructive religious practices.

HEALTH-RELATED REQUESTS

Chanshi Chanda

Missionary Chanshi Chanda was in a car accident recently and was hospitalized for treatment of his injuries. Although he is now home, it will take time for him to fully recover from his injuries. Please pray for God’s healing touch on his body. Pray also for his wife, Mary, and their children. And please pray for the many ministries that Chanshi oversees. He is the field strategy coordinator for the Africa Middle Field, which includes the countries of Cameroon, Congo, Democratic Republic of Congo, Equatorial Guinea, Gabon, Madagascar, Reunion, and Sao Tome & Principe.

BEREAVEMENT

Family of Betty Sawrie
Betty Sawrie passed away on May 28 in Little Rock, Arkansas, following a battle with cancer and other health issues. Services will be held on Friday, June 1, 6:00-8:00 p.m. (visitation), and Saturday, June 2, 10:00 a.m. (funeral), at the Griffin-Leggett Rest Hills Funeral Home in North Little Rock, Arkansas. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations in Betty’s honor to the World Evangelism Fund of the Church of the Nazarene, or to the University of Arkansas’ Multiple Myeloma Institute also in Little Rock. Pray for the family during this time of celebrating Betty’s life while grieving her passing. She was the mother of Gail Sawrie, NMI editor.
