JESUS Film Harvest Partners begins work in new world area

Turks and Caicos Islands
A 90-minute flight southeast of Miami will land you in the heart of the idyllic Turks and Caicos Islands. The palm tree-punctuated island groups consist of 40 land masses approximately 2.5 times the size of Washington DC. Three months after the Church of the Nazarene announced the official work in Turks and Caicos, a JESUS Film Harvest Partners (JFHP) team delivered the first ARK - a portable shelter - and set of equipment to launch the JESUS Film work.
The ARK will be used to hold local church services. The structure is 24 feet long, 16 feet wide, and 11 feet tall. This portable building is able to withstand gale-force winds, yet can be divided into luggage size bags for transportation.
"We have been holding church meetings in our home," said Nathalie Sweeting, pastor of Holy Ghost Church of the Nazarene. "Now, the ARK will give us a place to hold services."
Local residents were trained to use a solar-powered backpack to host JESUS film presentations. The backpack, which weights just 38 pounds, is a self-contained outdoor projection system that includes sound and a durable oval screen, allowing up to 1,000 people to view the JESUS film.
"The new JESUS Film team members are very excited about the ministry, and quick learners," said Darrell Leber, trainer and partner trip leader.
At the first presentation, District Superintendent John C. Wildgoose III participated by leading the altar call at the end of the showing, where several individuals became followers of Christ.
Individuals from the U.S. helped to fund and deliver the ARK and solar-powered backpack. They joined together from California, Washington, Maryland, and Georgia to equip brothers and sisters in the Turks and Caicos Islands with tools to help share the love of God. The Church of the Nazarene has worked to equip national leaders for more than 100 years, and JESUS Film Harvest Partners has been a ministry arm of the church since 1997.
