Compassionate ministry center executive director awarded Diamond Jubilee medal
Tuesday, July 10, 2012
Winnipeg, Manitoba
Victor Toews, regional minister for Manitoba and member of parliament for Provencher (an electoral district in Manitoba), presented the Diamond Jubilee medal to Floyd Perras, executive director of the Nazarene compassionate ministry center Siloam Mission.
“Floyd Perras’ service to Siloam Mission throughout a variety of roles, as a volunteer, member of the Board of Directors and most recently executive director, has advanced the programs and services of this vital Winnipeg organization,” Toews said. “Floyd has enhanced the lives of countless patrons of Siloam Mission and has encouraged growth and development in Winnipeg’s core. I am very happy to be able to recognize his contributions.”
Perras has a long–standing relationship with Siloam Mission. He was a volunteer from 1987 to 1989 with a core group of people that helped start Siloam Mission. He served on the Board of Directors from 2006 to 2009, and became Siloam Mission’s executive director in March 2010.
Since then, Perras has helped Siloam Mission establish a firm vision for housing and job creation in Winnipeg’s inner city, and to help the homeless transition from the streets into a more self–sufficient lifestyle. Under his leadership, in 2012 Siloam Mission launched Vision 500 – a vision to create 500 homes and 500 jobs in the next five years. The Madison Lodge supportive housing project is the first step in that vision.
2012 marks the 60th anniversary of Queen Elizabeth II’s accession to the throne as Queen of Canada. The Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal was created to mark this historic event and honor the significant contributions and achievements of Canadians. Perras was awarded the medal on July 3.
