MNU Football finds temporary home
Thursday, July 26, 2012
Olathe, Kansas
MidAmerica Nazarene University officials announced this fall's home football games will be held at the Olathe School District's ODAC sports complex.
"We sincerely appreciate the efforts of Lane Green, athletic director, and Dr. Marlin Berry, superintendent of Olathe Public Schools, for working with us to make the use of ODAC possible for MNU football this year," said MNU Athletics Director Kevin Steele. "The sharing of facilities is never an easy issue and they have worked as true community partners to help make it possible."
MNU President David Spittal explained the move.
"A few weeks ago, the campus community was informed that our MNU football stadium will not be utilized this fall due to safety concerns," he said. "Plans are underway for both the removal of the current stadium complex, as well as the construction of the new facilities and related costs."
Spittal believes the Olathe School District's facilites will work well.
"These are outstanding sports facilities and will provide excellent facilities for the team and spectators for the MNU 2012 season," he said. "We are grateful to the board and administration of the Olathe School District for their strong support of these arrangements. Please consult the football schedule for dates and times of scheduled events. Let’s use this opportunity to show our support for MNU football and demonstrate our Pioneer spirit."
ODAC is located five miles southwest of the campus on 159th Street between K-7 and Lone Elm.
"We are looking forward to another fantastic Pioneer football season and cannot wait to welcome our fans to the ODAC facility on September 8 for our home opener versus No.9-ranked Missouri Valley College," Steele said.
