Sean Middleton, who was about to begin his second season with the MidAmerican Nazarene University soccer team, died Wednesday night after a motorcycle on which he was a passenger lost control and crashed.
"The Pioneer Athletics family mourns the tragic and untimely loss of one of our own today, Sean Middleton," said MNU Athletics Director Kevin Steele. "We grieve along with his family and all who were fortunate to call him a friend. The loss of Sean affects us all deeply and we pray God's comforting Spirit will be at work in this time of tragedy."
The 23-year-old Peculiar, Missouri native was a forward and a well-liked reserve for Head Coach Kevin Wardlaw.
"We lost a member of our family," Wardlaw said. "Sean was an incredible young man who was living his dream of playing college soccer. He always put the team first and was a vital part of our success last year. We will truly miss him."
No funeral arrangements have been made at this time. An article by the Kansas City Star has more details.
