California church recycles for JESUS Film
Thursday, August 2, 2012
Redding, California
When Larry and Becky Haight, members of the Redding, California, First Church of the Nazarene, joined a JESUS Film Harvest Partners trip to Panama in July of 2007, their church provided a set of film equipment for them to take.
While ministering with the JESUS Film team in Panama, Larry and Becky tried to think of ways to raise more funds for equipment. Larry thought of recycling aluminum cans, plastic bottles, and glass with cash redemption value, so, on the first Sunday of each month, Redding First Church has trucks in the parking lot to collect all the recyclables. The collected materials are then sorted and taken to the recycling center.
Each month, the check for these recyclables is placed in a JESUS Film account at the church. Recently the church sent a set of equipment to Haiti and is now raising funds for a set of equipment for the church's 2013 missions trip. From January to May 2012, the church received $758.50 from its Recycling Sundays.
Becky, who is the area JESUS Film ambassador for northern California, said Recycle Sundays also help keep JESUS Film in the minds of the congregation.
Churches or individuals with additional ways to promote or support the ministry of JESUS Film Harvest Partners may contact Sandy Cunningham.
