More than 300 freshmen, transfers, and student leaders at Southern Nazarene University served at least 10 non-profits Tuesday morning in the Oklahoma City area.

Students served in various capacities, including painting, packing food boxes, and various sorting and cleaning projects.

“At the Regional Oklahoma Food Bank, we packaged up bread in order to send it to local food pantries for further distribution,” said freshman Emma Williamson. “I felt the experience really brought together our freshman class on a deeper level than just spending time together.”

Service projects have been an integral part of SNU's New Student Institute since its inception more than 20 years ago. The university uses these projects to remind students of their responsibility to serve the larger community.

“I feel like these projects are crucial to SNU because it exhibits what sets us apart from other universities,” Williamson said. “It also brings the freshman together in a way that is both humbling and Christ-centered.”
