Doroteia Pathways Foundation paves way for high school, college graduates
Belize

(Chico Enterprise-RecordAugust 23) You don't bring peace, prosperity or well-being at the end of a missile. You bring it through education, says Robert Trausch, founder of Doroteia Pathways Foundation.

Since 2005, the small nonprofit has been making high school education possible for children in impoverished villages in Central America.

"Years ago I took a trip to Belize and I saw a need. Children were living in abject poverty and I thought, we should be able to do something about this," said Trausch, a life-long social activist and Chicoan.

Note: Of the 15 Nazarene schools in Belize, seven are primary (elementary) schools, two are high schools, and six are preschools. According to Belize District Superintendent Darin Pound, about 1 percent of the country's population attends a Nazarene school. "We have a real opportunity to transform the nation," he said. There is a scholarship program for Nazarene schools as opposed to the one mentioned in the above article. For more information on this scholarship, write to bzednaz@btl.net

South Shore professionals cited in 40 Under 40 Awards
Quincy, Massachusetts

(Boston.com, September 9) Sacha Santimano likes making a difference. The 30-year-old teacher and head women’s basketball coach at Eastern Nazarene College in Quincy said making an impact on the young lives in her charge “makes me enjoy waking up and coming to work every day.”

Chad Puclowski, 32, of Hanover, has been a campus minister and science teacher at Xaverian Brothers High School in Westwood for the past seven years. “It’s rewarding to see the transformation over four years, the progression as they grow and mature,’’ he said. “It’s a blessing and a gift.”

For their efforts in their jobs and for their community involvement, Santimano, Puclowski, and 38 other professionals under the age of 40 are being honored at the third annual “40 Under 40 Awards” gala Sept. 28 at Siros on the Boardwalk at Marina Bay in Quincy.
