Nazarene Publishing House is pleased to announce Gerald Smith was elected the company's eighth president.

Smith, the son of a pastor, is a life-long member of the Church of the Nazarene and a graduate of MidAmerica Nazarene University. He also holds a master's degree from Baker University and is a member of College Church of the Nazarene in Olathe, Kansas.

After working in the Communications Department of the Church of the Nazarene Headquarters, Smith founded Premier Studios, where he served as president and CEO until accepting his new role as Nazarene Publishing House president. Smith and his wife, Dianna, have four children.

Smith was selected following a five-month search in accordance with the Church of the Nazarene Manual and was elected by the General Board of the Church of the Nazarene.

Smith's former company, Premier Studios, worked closely with the Church of the Nazarene's Global Ministry Center to provide services for audio/video projects including general assemblies, Nazarene youth conferences, evangelism conferences, and international lay conferences.

Smith has a personal commitment to working for those in need. In addition to involvement with service-oriented nonprofit organizations, he is often invited to speak for humanitarian organizations. Recently he joined other business leaders on a mission to raise funds for several charities by riding motorcycles from the southern tip of South America back to the United States with MilesWithAMission.org. Smith also serves on the boards of several philanthropic organizations and is a lifetime member of the Media Communications Association International.

Smith will succeed Hardy Weathers upon his retirement. Weathers has served as Nazarene Publishing House President since 1998 and will continue to serve as president through November. Smith will begin on December 1, 2012.

"I welcome the opportunity to work with Mr. Smith and the entire NPH team to ensure a smooth transition and a bright future for Nazarene Publishing House," said John Bowling, chairman of the Nazarene Publishing House Board. "I also commend Dr. Weathers for his strong commitment to the mission of NPH and years of service as president."
