The Church of the Nazarene's Peru Field held the annual Assembly of the National Board of Theological Education on the campus of Nazarene Theological Seminary in Chiclayo, Peru.

The assembly took place on November 28 and 29 and was led by Ricardo Rodriguez, board president. Reports were received from the rector of Nazarene Theological Seminary of Chiclayo, the director of Nazarene Biblical Institute of Nuevo Horizonte, and the vice presidents of the two other Nazarene theological education institutions in Peru.

In addition to regular business, two notable decisions were made at the assembly. Evelio Vasquez Malca received a majority vote of support from the national board for reelection as rector of Nazarene Theological Seminary for two years (2013-2014).

Nazarene Theological Seminary and Nazarene Biblical Institute were unanimously approved to become one theological education institution called Nazarene Theological Seminary of Peru (Seminario Nazareno del Peru). The seminary will have its main headquarters in the city of Chiclayo and an additional campus in Nuevo Horizonte.

"All attendants felt that this agreement is one of the more significant in the history of theological education in Peru, leaving open the possibility of recognizing other campuses in different cities of Peru," said Oscar Suarez Becerra, Peru national field communications coordinator.

In addition to district superintendents and lay delegates chosen by their district assemblies, the assembly was attended by Dan Copp, Church of the Nazarene education commissioner; Christian Sarmiento, South America regional director; Segundo Rimarachin, Peru field strategy coordinator; and Oscar Medina, president of the Association of the Church of the Nazarene in Peru.

Rodriguez showed his appreciation for the calm atmosphere, tolerance, and mutual respect in the decision-making process.

Rector Evelio Vasquez said the renewed confidence of the members present and those voting in the National Board of Theological Education gave him great motivation to continue developing the seminary to fulfill the noble purpose for which it was created — to train and equip those called by the Lord to ministry.
