
MidAmerica Nazarene University announced its 2013 Martin Luther King Jr. Living Legacy Award winner is Alice Piggee-Wallack, founder and director of True Light Family Resource Center in midtown Kansas City, Missouri.

MNU announces 2013 Martin Luther King Jr. Living Legacy Award winner

MidAmerica Nazarene University announced its 2013 Martin Luther King Jr. Living Legacy Award winner is Alice Piggee-Wallack, founder and director of True Light Family Resource Center in midtown Kansas City, Missouri. A social worker and ordained minister for the past 25 years, Piggee-Wallack works with people fighting substance abuse, the mentally ill, and homeless populations. Her work with True Light and advocacy of homeless women has been profiled in the media, where she is hailed as an example to women in the urban core.
MNU President David J. Spittal will present the award to Piggee-Wallack, who also serves as an adjunct professor at MNU, at the seventh annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Community Celebration on January 22, 2013, at 9:30 A.M., at College Church of the Nazarene. The public is invited to participate in this free event.
Spittal also announced that Chris Powers, coordinator for diversity and cultural competency at MNU, will serve as speaker for the celebration. Powers advises the student diversity council and leads MNU’s efforts to extend its mission to diverse constituents. As the founder of Positive Nfluence, Inc., Powers also produces programs that empower young people to be a positive influence in their community and while enabling them to showcase their artistic talents.
