The Casa de la Paz Church of the Nazarene in Puno celebrated five years in the city and one year as an organized church on January 29.

District Superintendent Edilberto Solano Castro preached a sermon at the anniversary service, which was attended by 155 people.

"Five years ago the Church of the Nazarene arrived in this city with the message of holiness," said Oscar Suárez Becerra, Peru national communications coordinator for the Church of the Nazarene. "God put it on the heart of the main leaders a vision to come to this region and to plant a church."

"We want to end the year 2013 with 90 members and move the new missions to the second level, with a minimum of 12 full members each; and have a branch center of ETED [estudios teológicos descentralizados, decentralized theological studies] to prepare the leadership and those who have a call to serve God full time," said Pastor Hermán Alcántara.

The Puno region is located in the mountains of southeastern Peru on the Collao plateau at the banks of Lake Titicaca. Its capital city, Puno, has an altitude of 12,421 feet and 120,000 inhabitants. The Puno region has approximately 1,500,000 residents.
