For the first time in its history, Nazarene Missions International (NMI) has a global president from a country outside the United States. Jennifer Brown of Jamaica was elected on the seventh ballot on Friday, June 26.

"My motto has always been 'saved to serve.' I believe in servant leadership," said Brown in response to the election. "I'm very positive about missions ... I'm excited about helping make Christlike disciples in the nations."

Brown was elected earlier in the week to a second term as representative to the Global NMI Council for the Caribbean Region. She resides on the Jamaica West District; and, in addition to her experience on the General NMI Council, she has served as a local NMI president for eight years and as a district NMI president for 14 years.

Brown holds a bachelor's degree and a master's degree, both in education, from the University of the West Indies. She teaches Spanish and English on the high school level, is an associate pastor, and an ordained elder in the Church of the Nazarene.

Donnamie Ali of Trinidad was elected as the Caribbean Region's Global NMI Council representative for the quadrennium, succeeding Jennifer Brown.
