i had some tears in my eyes as i read the story. i was thrilled such a person God had raised for such a time like this. i thank God for the church of Nazarene who taught us to be humble and willingly serve God simply the way he had called us.

we are from the small islands nation in the south pacfic ocean close to Australia and Papua New Guinea the Solomon island we thank God for the fine example of Dr. Duarte, i was also thrilled with the statemnet made by him that once we think that we adequate then we will not allow God to do some thing in our lives.

Dear brothers,
I am a newborn Christian living in Portugal but born in Cape Verde Islands. Although not a member of the Church of the Nazarene, I love this church and have very good friends (brothers and sisters) that attend this church. But I am not concerned about the fact of so many differences in the evangelical world, We all are brothers and sisters, confessing Jesus as our only and sufficient Savior and in the end we will all meet Him and be with Him forever. That is why I got so thrilled when I heard about the news concerning brother Duarte as a new superintendent of your church. I think this is history for as much as I know this is the first time an African is elected for such a position. And what an excitement knowing he is from Cape Verde! I do not know him personally but I want to congratulate him for this new responsibility and privilege he has to serve the Lord. May Jesus (He certainly will) richly bless him and make him a mark in the history not only of the Chruch of the Nazarene but of all Christendom. Please convey him my best compliments.
In His love,
Jorge Pinheiro

Gloria sea a Dios

We have seven different regions. I look forward to the day when we have seven General Superintendants, each representing the different regions of the world. Today is an historic day. God Bless the Church of the Nazarene. May we always be a world (missional) Church, thus fulfilling the command of our Lord to go into ALL THE WORLD and preach the gospel to EVERY creature.

Praise the Lord, Dr. Bowling! I thank God for your leadership. When you did not accept the General Superintendent election in 2005 I was both humbled and challenged by your decision. Humbled because you revealed to me that following God's will is not to be taken lightly. Challenged because you fleshed out what it means to follow God's will even when the will of those around you suggest a different path.

Our Church has greater days ahead because God is gathering a leadership team determined to equip us to take the Good News to all the world!

I thank God for you!

Having shared ministry alongside Eugenio during my time in Africa I support whole-heartedly his election and believe it is a giant step forward for the world Church. His gentle Christlikeness and profound love for and commitment to the Lord and the Church, his abilities in Portuguese, English & French (& perhaps other languages), and his genuine ability to connect with people will serve him well in this new assignment. I hope someone mentions that it was the oldest organized church in our denomination (Providence First) that sent a young Cape Verdean, Joao Diaz (who often suffered critical injuries from beatings), to the Cape Verde Islands in 1901. How fitting it is that the first truly international General Superintendent is a product of the ministry of the first missionary of color, who was sent from our oldest organized church.

This momentous occasion brings celebration of and worship to the God of the Bible. Truly the Church of the Nazarene has come of age and reflects the multiculturality of the first Holiness church as recorded in the book of Acts. God is at work and we have never been more Spiritually alive than we are right now. May we set the standard by which the world lives. "Nkosi sikelele Africa". Rev. Gabriel Benjiman- Morningside Community Church of the Nazarene.Congratulations Rev. Eugenio Duarte

Truly this was an historic election. The article correctly indicates Dr Duarte is the first non-North American citizen elected GS. However, he is the 3rd GS born outside of the USA - Dr Samuel Young was born in Scotland, while Dr Edward Lawlor was Canadian (I seem to recall he may have been born in England but migrated to Canada while young) by citizenship.

What is significant to me is that Dr Duarte is a citizen of the first non-US mission field of any of the groups that became part of the Church of the Nazarene. Cape Verde, which has among the highest percentage of Nazarenes of any nation, has benefited from more than a century of global Nazarene ministry, has produced the 1st non-Anglo GS, the first GS of colour. I appreciate the completing of the circle of Nazarene missions.

This is a grand moment for our Church! Finally the highest elected office has a truly international flavor by a remarkable servant of God. The more I became involved in missions the more I realized the need of an internationally blended General Superintendency to greater magnify our God-ordained unifying diversity. Praise the Lord! Our prayers and support for General Superintendent Duarte is assured!

This is a great day for the denomination. Though not in Orlando, I applaud the church for its selection & its commitment to 'servant - leadership' in its highest officials. With God's help, Dr. Duarte will do a great job!

Praise God that we, the COTN, are expanding our missional call to our understanding of leadership for the General Church. Rev. Duarte is an excellent choice as the first non-US General Superintendent. May we continue to hear and follow mission to be a global church.
