District Superintendent Victor George welcomed the timing of the workshop as the district is going through a process of refocusing in order to revive several churches.
Cyr stated that the main purpose of the workshop was to help district leaders be more effective, with the expectation that those trained would pass on to others what they had learned.
Topics for workshop sessions, which were held at the St. James Church of the Nazarene and Guanapo Church of the Nazarene, included God’s Call to Lead, Heart of a Leader, I Have a Dream, Priorities and Decision-Making, Cultivating People Skills, and Steps to Effective Strategic Planning.
Cyr stressed that a leader’s top priorities must be their relationship with God, followed by their relationship with their spouse and children.
Participants examined the value of relationships and learned "leadership is not coercion, not manipulation, not propaganda, but serving your people to bring them to voluntary submission to the church’s vision & mission." They also discussed the quote from Saint Francis Assisi, "Preach the gospel at all times - if necessary, use words."
Certificates of participation were distributed to workshop students who had attended at least four of the six sessions.
Trinidad & Tobago District SDMI Director Cindy Ann Collymore thanked outgoing district SDMI Director Mary Elizabeth Goddard for her assistance in organizing the workshop, and also thanked Cyr for his service to the district.
