During the past two years, Botswana has experienced several 'firsts' in its history as a district. In January 2007, L.G. Chikova became one of the first ordained elders in Botswana. It was a landmark and achievement for the Botswana District. On August 23, Chikova was installed as district superintendent (D.S.) of the Botswana District, becoming the district's first national D.S.
Africa South Field Strategy Coordinator Collin Elliott was present to speak from the Word of God and to perform the installation. Most of the district pastors took part in the program. The occasion was marked with much praise, rejoicing, and excitement, as well a reverent solemnity for what God is doing; He is seen continually at work on the Botswana District.
A highlight of the service was when the pastors individually greeted the new D.S. and said a few personal words pledging their support and cooperation. The service was concluded by gift-giving in a traditional manner; an appropriate and very joyful part of the celebration.
Botswana Education Coordinator Cheri Kommel commented: "We rejoice greatly for what we see God doing in Rev. Chikova's life. We know that with his vision and leadership ability as well as his strong love for the Lord, the Botswana District will take steps forward in spiritual maturity and growth. Please pray for the Chikovas as they assume this great responsibility."
